Getting More For Less – Part 2
by Subachad on Mar.20, 2011, under Drivetrain, Engine
First step is cutting off the muffler and replacing it with a straight pipe. The noise is MUCH more than what I was hoping for, but the power is definitely increased. As an added bonus the car pulls all the way to about 5200 RPM now, up from about 4700. This means there is still some exhaust restriction or a flow restriction in the heads, intake or intake manifold. The next step will be improving the down pipe, I suspect that is where most, if not all of the flow restriction currently lies. Here are the actual results.
Getting More For Less – Part 1

This article was written in 2004 I believe.
So at this point the Impreza is lowered with .75 lowering Eibachs, turbo‘d with a TD04L, Engine management is taken care of with a Greddy E-Manage, 17″ wheels, MP3 player, etc… What else could I want? Well, more power, better handling and better braking. Now that the car has 215,000 miles, the shocks are due for replacement, and the bushings are becoming more worn. In addition, with the additional power on tap the stock brakes are way inadequate.
Cobb Catted Downpipe – Hellas – Perrin Endlinks
by Subachad on Jan.24, 2011, under Drivetrain, Electrical, Installs
This weekends install started as Hella Horns, Perrin Endlinks, and Perrin sway bars. Unfortunately, the sway bars have been waiting for about a year so really its unknown whether they came with bushings or perhaps they were lost somewhere in time. At any rate, on to what we can install.
Cobb Catted downpipe
Going with a catted downpipe over the cheaper more popular catless options, allows you to actually not spit fuel out the exhaust and pass emissions, usually without cheating. Installing is not too difficult as long as you can get under the car. I’ll lay out the tools required and steps.
Building an Aveo Brace Brace – Eliminating the Torque.
by Subachad on Feb.17, 2010, under Drivetrain, Engine, Suspension
No it’s not typo, it’s a brace to brace the brace. Looking a few post back, you will see that I somehow managed to break the transmission where a bolt mounts the torque mount to. That wouldn’t have been so bad if the other bolt didn’t fall out a few months before. The end result was a brace that would actually pivot allowing the engine to twist while power was applied. This in turn would cause the gear lever to pull forward and actually pop out of 1st, 3rd, and 5th gear.
Aveo Motor Mount – Round 1 – Transmission Mount
by Subachad on Jan.27, 2010, under Drivetrain, Engine
Generally, this would come before round 2, but that doesn’t always work out. At any rate, here are the pictures from filling the transmission mount.
